James McClements
Taking part in my Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards was a highlight of my youth! I loved the many opportunities taking part provided me with and through my involvement I developed a love for the outdoors, most importantly the Award instilled in me the importance of giving Service to others.
Completing my Gold Award and meeting HRH The Duke of Edinburgh at St James’s Palace remains, to this day, one of my proudest moments. I went on to be an Award Leader, DofE Manager and an Emerging Leader. The DofE lead to my career with the DofE UK as the Office Manager for Northern Ireland where I’ve been privileged to arrange GAPs and see countless young people receive their own Gold Awards.
As I reflect on The Duke of Edinburgh’s passing I convey my deepest sympathies to HM The Queen and the Royal Family at this time of their loss, but I give thanks of His Royal Highness’s legacy and commit to the continuing support of young people as they embark on their Award journeys.
