Moira Dalmedo

In 1974 I was one of the first Gold award holders in Gibraltar...... I remember it as it was yesterday...... the frontier with Spain was closed and the local community offered the scheme..... I remember we had to adapt to be able to practice for the hike and because Gibraltar is only 3 1/2 square miles but very hilly we had to hike up and down the Rock and camp on the edge of a road which was closed to the public.....my service was undertaken with the Girl Guides which to this day I am still a member...... I was a member of the local DOE council for over 10 years and help organize two visits of the Duke of Edinburgh to Gibraltar....i was honoured to meet him on several occasions during his visits especially on my Gold award presentation at Buckingham Palace.....May he Rest In Peace
