Well, I completed the Duke of Ed (Gold) almost 30 years ago! At my school, we received a golden boot if you made it to the GOLD! (image).
My memories of completing the award are that it was extremely rewarding. I remember pushing myself to reach the next level and complete it. Doing the GOLD was the hardest because school work was really amped up by then. However, I was determined as I saw the value of it. The hike was awesome and the volunteering was so much fun. I know that my working life had a head start because of what I experienced doing the Duke of Ed. To its creator, Prince Phillip - thank you and rest in peace.
