The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has been a big part of my life. It was hugely rewarding to help run the Award at Warwick Academy, Bermuda for over 28 years. It was so pleasing seeing hundreds of students going through the Award programme - especially those who were initially unsure about their own abilities but were to find new confidence in themselves. I also had the privilege to serve on the Bermuda DOE Council including a number of years as chairman. I consider myself lucky to have met Prince Philip in Bermuda in 1991, 1994 and 2009. His interest and encouragement for young people was an inspiration for all of us. A remarkable man. My photo from 1991 is typical of Prince Philip's keen interest to talk to young people, seen here with some of my students.
