Together with 71 others, I received my certificate from HRH Prince Philip, in Wellington, New Zealand, on 21 May 1968.
Our local newspaper reported. " After congratulating them on gaining their gold awards, Prince Philip said: "Ï do not know whether the parents here know, but it is quite a long programme and it does take a long time. I would think the most difficult part is perseverance. I would expect that those who received certificates today would be the first to admit they that have had someone to chivvy them along".
Prince Philip appealed to those who had gained their medals to help others who were trying for them. "
