Jake Tomlinson

I completed my Duke of Edinburgh award whilst in secondary school. At the time, it was an opportunity to spend time with a group of friends doing something that we all loved doing. Since completing my gold and stepping forward into my adult life, I have truly been able to understand how the award has strengthened my sense of adventure, helping to mold who I am today.

I also gained a range of skills from participating in areas such as the voluntary and residential aspects. They provided me with an opportunity to expand my people skills, often putting me in situations that were unknown to me. For my residential I helped out at a charity, a week away from what I would normally do. I went in anxious and came out confident in my abilities to do something outside of my comfort zone.

If I had the opportunity to do it all again I wouldn't hesitate. After all what's better than being in the outdoors with a group of friends!
