David Bird

I achieved my Gold in Yorkshire, England in 1964!

I struggled with the swimming in the Physical Fitness component, went solo for part of my expedition, as my travelling companion was needed at home, sang my way through pursuits and projects and, led my youth group as part of my service...The only record I have of ALL my DofE is a grainy, black and white photo of me holding my certificate taken along with my Mom and Dad!! Social media was waiting to be born, selfies were not, Facebook was a dream and videos were expensive...

I loved my DofE and would highly encourage you to go for Gold. It is very worthwhile, the experiences last a lifetime, and, my lasting memory is that of actually receiving the Award directly from HRH with a smile and a handshake: a fleeting moment but magical!! I have since served The Award in B.C. Canada since 1976.

..... In the wall are many doors. Be patient for one will open to your key and the land beyond is oh so fair...
