Dilshan Jayasinghe

I’m Dilshan Jayasinghe, I am a Bronze Award Holder of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. My journey of achieving this milestone started back in my elementary school years. Since grade 6 I have volunteered my time in different initiatives which involves protecting the environment and helping others in need around the world. Those initiatives have made a positive impact to me to continue to be involved in my school community and to the society.

During my high school years, I was able to be more involved in many extra-curricular activities and held leadership roles where I was able to give back to the school community and to be involved in physical recreation playing one of my favourite sports. It was at that time I learned about the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. It aligned perfectly with the skills and experiences I gained during my school years, as I was able to showcase those. Of course, I had challenges along the way where I wanted to start something new, but the support I received to make it happen was amazing. Being the Bronze Award Holder has given me more motivation to continue to be involved in many activities during my four years of university. All the skills and dedication I had during my high school years, I was able to carry it over at university. While maintaining a good academic standing, I held different leadership roles on-campus, helped current students to achieve their goals and created more initiatives that helped enriched the university community.

At the end of my university years, I was privileged to be the recipient of the Michael Nightingale Community Enrichment Award, which recognizes one graduating student’s major contribution to the university community and beyond. All of this, wouldn’t have happened, if it wasn’t for my passion to give back to the community and beyond and to the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Thank you, Prince Phillip, for all your contributions you made to the world.
