Our family has enjoyed the privilege of supporting the Award for over thirty years. During that time, I was able to meet with HRH Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh on a number of occasions, as an Award recipient and as a member of a benefactor family. I enjoyed the conviction with which he spoke on a wide variety of topics, reflecting what he had seen and learned during his journeys around the globe. He had a particularly quick wit and a wonderful, dry sense of humour that had guests of ours in stitches and in awe, alike, when they spoke to Him. The legacy he had the vision to create and the passion to nurture has reached so many around the globe due to his infectious energy. He took great pride in querying youth about what activities they had completed when they participated in the programme, hoping they had challenged themselves by pushing them out of their comfort zone. Engaging in expeditions was a particularly special dimension of my own Award journey, enabling me to embrace the outdoors and to fall in love with what Canada has to offer. He will be deeply missed, yet his legacy will endure, as HRH The Prince Edward and the team of the Award around the globe will continue very intentionally to build on the foundation created and elevate it to reach more youth and assure positive impact on society in the decades to come.
